The denim industry uses significant water, energy, and chemicals. ALLBLUE takes responsibility for reducing environmental impact.
Challenges
Lifecycle assessments by major denim brands estimate that a single pair of jeans uses approximately 3,800 liters of water across its full lifecycle (Levi’s LCA, 2015). Of that total, cotton cultivation accounts for roughly 68%, consumer washing for around 23%, and manufacturing for the remainder. Historically, dyeing and finishing were water-intensive — but modern technologies (laser etching, ozone washing, nano-bubble cleaning) have reduced finishing-stage water use by up to 90–96 percent compared with conventional methods. According to industry reporting in 2024, the majority of denim finishing operations are now classified as low environmental impact. The remaining challenge is therefore concentrated upstream — in how the cotton is grown — and downstream, in how the garment is washed by the end user.
What We Do
Sustainable Materials
Organic cotton denim, recycled cotton blends, and GRS-certified fabrics available.
Mill Partnerships
Our partner mills in Okayama and Hiroshima invest in wastewater treatment and water-reduction technologies.
Cleaner Finishing
Laser finishing (no water or chemicals), ozone washing (reduces bleaching agents), and nano-bubble technology for reduced water usage.
Waste Reduction
Small-lot production and stock fabric programs reduce overstock and unnecessary production.
Our Perspective
Sustainability is not a solved problem. It is continuous improvement. Every choice to use less water, fewer chemicals, or recycled materials is a step forward.
