Next week, we will be exhibiting in Tokyo.

We will be bringing more new fabrics than usual. Counting them the other day, the number surprised even us.

When we say “new,” it covers quite a range.

Small changes in the dye. Different weave structures. Some with a denser setting, others deliberately loosened. Finishing processes taken a half-step off the usual path. Yarn twists adjusted.

Moving just one element changes the hand, the drape, and the way light falls on the fabric. Repeating those small shifts, we feel like we are always searching for a slightly different bolt.

We are not aiming at a fixed answer.

Rather, we try, step back, look, touch, let some time pass, and look again. Honestly, the moments when we realize “Oh, that is a direction too” are the ones that teach us the most.

So many of the things we are bringing this time are not final forms. They might be better described as pieces caught in the middle. And yet, there is something worth showing precisely because they are still in motion. With that in mind, we will lay them out on the table.

At the booth, we don’t plan on giving long explanations.

We would rather have you pick up a bolt, feel its weight, hold it up to the light, and take a step back to see the whole. If a question comes up, we can talk about it then.

Fabric itself, with the time it carries, tends to speak more clearly than words.
