Essential checkpoints for denim fabric procurement.
1. Weight (oz)
6-8oz for shirts, 10-14oz for jeans, 16oz+ for heavyweight. Same oz can feel very different; swatch evaluation is essential.
2. Yarn (Ring vs Open-End)
Ring-spun produces vertical fading. Open-end gives dry, uniform texture.
3. Dyeing Method
Rope dyeing creates ring-dye structure for high-contrast fading. Slasher dyeing is uniform and efficient.
4. Weave Structure
RHT, LHT, or broken twill as baseline. Affects hand feel, leg twist, and fade patterns.
5. Finishing
Sanforization directly impacts pattern making. Unsanforized shrinks 7-10%. Other finishes (brushing, coating, one-wash) transform the fabric’s character.
